protest strategies effective??

i was thinking today about how the protests followed by police brutality followed by documentation followed by lawsuits as a result of events like g8/g20 and how those in authority are becoming less and less afraid of the public they oppress… laws getting passed which criminalize the documentation of policebillions of tax payer dollars spent on security prior to these events… police/military worldwide becoming more ominous in the way they deal with protestors such as what the IDF did to the passengers on the Mavi Marmara…. what laws are left in favor of the people are quickly being overturned, we’re heading towards a very scary world!! i also would like to know if these global movements of resistance are thinking about how the actions which seemed to work in ’99 in seattle are far less effective today, if they are thinking about new effective and efficient strategies of resistance… we have to be highly intelligent, strategic, effective and efficient, even tho there is more of us, they have the bigger guns and are much more willing to pull them out on us!! we need peace and justice non-hierarchal collective think tanks!!

Umar Lee, Mike Knight and RIMs???

I spent most of my night last night and my day today reading article after article on the internet to come to the realization that our beautiful faith Islam has been hijacked by two white men (Umar Lee and Michael Muhammad Knight) getting a high off the media attention and blog-site hits they receive. It’s funny how they both reference Malcolm X… well after reading some things about them both I think Malcolm would have spit on BOTH of them. May Allah SWT humble and guide them BOTH!! Continued…

The Power of Nightmares

http://www.archive.org/details/ThePowerOfNightmares

This documentary is a MUST WATCH!!

However, what the documentary did not mention is how Communist movements and their politicians are no different from the right wing extremists or the extremists in the name of Islam, they say a lot of the same things and even use some of the same phrases. Qutb was not wrong in identifying certain aspects of American consumerism that has brought us to our world’s current decayed state. And neither are todays anarcho-sociaist experts such as Chomsky wrong about the destructive nature of the current global capitalist system. Continued…

One sided analysis of Afghan Mujahideen

I watched the segment on Afghan women in Greenwald’s doc Rethink Afhganistan. The situation in Afghanistan is pretty bad and horrific, not just for women but for all poor Afghans, no doubt about it, but it’s the analysis of why it is happening that is pretty disturbing because not until we fully understand and take into account in detail the history, culture, language, religion and ways of the Afghan people can a solution take place. As long as outsiders try to force their way in and tell the Afghan people how to run their affairs, there will be a backlash by the Afghan people. Continued…

Calling ALL Afghans – We need our own movement

Salaam friends, hope you’re well. After talking to some of you I think it is safe to say we feel the need for our own movement, a movement towards a united, all inclusive, democratic, just and peaceful Afghanistan. We are the future of our people, those of us who live in the US have extra responsibility because this government is waging a war in our native homeland. While we celebrate the end of the Bush Administration, Obama’s stance on Afghanistan so far has not been promising and one of concern for many in the social justice and anti-war movements and reasonably so. His solution so far has been to take the troops out of Iraq and send them to Afghanistan and to escalate the war in Afghanistan. We need to hold our new president elect accountable and make sure that our voices are heard. Continued…
